The Ghetto State of Mind

The Ghetto State of Mind  The Ghetto state of mind is an intriguing concept. In my hometown this mind set is on an upscale. It has always been there but in the last 5 years its grown rampantly like wildfire. The ghetto state of mind comes in all colors and nationalities. You can identify it by how someone carries themselves and by their words and actions and how they treat others.   Let us explore this unaesthetic mind set.  This mind set is at one of the lowest mindsets. In this mindset the person always has to be right, always gets their way. Putting their needs first is always on their agenda. Some examples are screaming and honking at an elderly to cross the street as opposed to a more noble mindset of going out of your way to help an elderly person cross the street. This mindset is also displayed by not letting people merge on the highway knowing that now they will now have to exit. In some states not merging is against the law but it is just human decency tha

Who are you? Rise of SkyWalker Reflections (spoilers)

                             Who Are You?

                Rise of Sky Walker Reflections

I just got done from seeing Star Wars, Rise of Sky Walker. Warning there are spoilers in this blog. I came to the movie with very low expectations because of the bad reviews. I was still determined to see it, no matter how bad it was. I have been watching Star Wars since I was a kid in the 80's. I am invested now, no turning back.

The first half of the movie was kind of slow to me, but still relieved it had some type of plot unlike a movie I saw a few days ago with no apparent plot for most of the movie, called Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Honestly any movie would seem like a Oscar nomination after seeing that. I am glad that I had such low expectations because by the end of Rise of the Sky walker I loved it.

People just didn't give this movie bad reviews and were disappointed, they were actually mad. My son was not impressed with the story line, thinking it was lazy and uncreative, like bringing back an old villain that already died.

I want to discus the highlights of this movie that I really enjoyed. The first half like I said was a bit slow, but I enjoyed a new character I never see before called Babu Frick. He was so funny and cute and I laughed when I heard him talking. I hope they bring him back in future movies. It has been awhile since I have fell in love with a new character.
I really like the tension between Kylo Ren and Rey. They have this strong chemistry between them and want to give in, to be in each other's arms but try to stay strong for what they believe in. Some people wonder why Rey would even be attracted to such a evil guy when he killed so many people. Hey maybe she's into badboys? Or maybe that is another reason they had chemistry is because she herself also struggled with power from the dark side especially knowing her family background now.

I absolutely love a story about redemption and how after Princess Lei died and Kylo had a vision from his dad, had a change of heart and threw away his red light saber away. He is turning from the darkside to walk on the right path. He can now be with Rey as well. It didn't turn out has he first visualized it, him and Rey ruling the dark side together.  I loved it when he picked up the blue light saber. It reminds me of a bible scripture. Ephesians 2; 1-5  As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.  But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,  made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

I really enjoyed how they would come together and unite their powers to fight off evil. I was a little disappointed that after they could finally be together and kissed that Ben disappeared. He had to sacrifice himself for her live. Kylo Ren was very evil at one point, even murdering his own dad. No person has done so much that they are beyond redemption. Even people like Charles Manson and Jeffrey Dahmer.

The Morning of the day that I went to see Star Wars, I kept hearing God me the message, " I am with you". So when Rey was left on ground, looking defeated and her energy all zapped out. It was interesting that she kept repeating, "Be with me, be with me". It reminded me of the message I read that morning and then kept hearing about it on the radio about God being with me.  The power of the Jedi's encouraged her and told her,

Confronting fear is the destiny of he Jedi. Your destiny.”  I personally battle with anxiety and fear at times and I know I have to choose faith over fear knowing God is with me. Let us not be paralyzed with fear. That is spirit from the dark side. Even Luke mentioned he was wasting time being trapped in a place of fear. When we are defeated, and burned out as Rey was when she was laying on the ground. we can call God to be with us. Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.I will strengthen you and help you I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Knowing God is with us will help us to fight our battles. Then we can walk with power and authority in the Lord. Perfect love drives out fear. When we call out to him for help,he is with us and his strength helps us when we are down on the ground. For when we are weak, we are strong because of him.

I like that Rey was the last Jedi. I still don't think their are strong female characters in movies but I am not disappointed with Ren. I was disapointed with the Wonder woman character from that last movie. So weak but I connected with Ren in this movie. She was walking in power and in her authority!  I do wish they would have spent more time in training her. Training moments are some of the best parts of the Star Wars movie and I do agree that was lacking.

I love movies that show the fight of good vs. Evil. In this world, especially if you are a Christian, you can get discouraged with the world around you and start losing hope when evil is embraced by the majority of world and lifted up as if it is good. Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil.  Then more and more Jedis turn to the dark side it can get even more discouraging. That is how one of the star wars character felt when he thought he was loosing the battle by the emperor palpetine's territory. He thought there was more of them and there was no hope. I love what Poe said,

“We’re not alone. Good people will fight if we lead them.” – Poe

Later in the movie Poe was right when unexpected ordinary people came in droves to help fight in the battle against evil! This reminds me that we are not alone and that we must continue to evangelize and get the Gospel message out because they will be in this fight too if we will just lead them. All hope is not lost!

Lastly, I wanted to mention about the pig looking character that asked Rey who she was. Rey didn't know her family and seemed uncomfortable about this question not knowing her last name and telling the pig lady that she didn't have a family. All of us has been lost and gone astray like sheep to the slaughter. If we believe in Jesus and turn to him we have become adopted sons and daughters in Christ. We take on a new name and a new family. Jesus said, in Mathew 12 48-50  He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?”  Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

Rey's family had a bad legacy and she ended up with no family but was trained and adopted into  a new family. The Skywalkers. We too take on a new name and family when we follow Jesus. At the end of the movie Rey is proud to say she is Rey Skywalker. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
Romans 8:14-19

Rey finally knew who she was and to whom she belonged. We are adopted sons and daughters of Christ and have a new identity in Christ. Now I ask you, Who are you?

If you are not sure who you really are. Watch this song, to see WHO God says you are.
